Khavda IV C Transmission Limited (K4CPTL)

The Government of India has set an ambitious target of installing 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 to move towards a net-zero future. To that end, the central government has been supporting establishment of renewable energy projects in various parts of the country matched with synchronized development of transmission network to evacuate this power to the national grid.

As part of this, the world’s largest renewable energy (solar + wind) park with 30 GW capacity is being set up at Khavda (along the Indo-Pak border) in Kutch region of Gujarat. Out of 30 GW, 15 GW renewable energy (RE) capacity is expected to come up by 2024-25 and balance by 2026-27 timeframe.

The transmission system for evacuation of up to 15 GW power from Khavda RE Park is already under implementation/bidding in three phases (Phase I – 3 GW, Phase II – 5, and Phase III – 7 GW).

For remaining 15 GW of RE capacity, connectivity applications have already been received. Hence, the evacuation system has been planned for the balance 15 GW as well in two phases (Phase-IV (Part A to E): 7 GW & Phase-V: 8 GW). Khavda IV C transmission line project is part C of phase IV of the planned evacuation system.

Khavda IV C is a transmission line project that has been envisaged by the Ministry of Power, Government of India to supply 7,000 MW of renewable power from Khavda renewable park in Kutch region of Gujarat to Maharashtra.

The project has been discussed and agreed at various meetings held between the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority, and Western Region Power Committee. The project was discussed in the 12th National Committee on Transmission held on 24th March 2023. It was also discussed in 46th and 47th Western Region Power Committee (WRPC) meeting as well as by joint study meetings held amongst CEA, CTUIL, and GRID-INDIA on 20th April 2023 and 9th May 2023 respectively. The scope of the project was agreed in 14th National Committee on Transmission (NCT) held on 9th June 2023.
